Pirates at Norman Island - The Bight

SkipperTom.com - Stuck in Paradise

The Independence Day "Stuck in Paradise" trip was a beautiful nine-sailor nine-day underway in perfect weather and seas - less then an hour of rain the whole trip and not an unfriendly face ashore.

Stuck in Paradise Cruise - July 2008 - Daily Log
Tuesday 08 July 2008: Morning moved us to Deadman's Bay where we beached the dingy in three-foot swells and explored the exclusive Peter Island Resort/Yacht Club beach. Afternoon took us to a mooring at a deserted "Indians" where we snorkeled the underwater cliffs& sighted several healthy barracuda and one hugh grouper working the rocks below us. We returned to Nanny Cay for an after-sunset docking at our departure dock.
Monday 07 July 2008: Easy motor to White Beach where we caught a mooring and spent four hours kayaking, swimming, snorkeling, and touring the beach. An amazing beach not to be missed: local gift shacks, Soggy Dollar Bar & Ivan's Stress Free Bar. Ivan was a great personal host, a Kenny Chesney musical cohort & incredible shell artist. The afternoon took us to Peter Island's Great Harbor.
Sunday 06 July 2008: Early out of Cane Garden Bay to swim the corals and sands of Green Cay. Rounded Jost Van Dyke and ended up moored in Little Harbor for the night. Loved the hospitalities on Cynthia at Harris' Place - big lobsters & great desserts - staff out-numbering the diners on this night - but we will return.
Saturday 05 July 2008: Calm morning in Great Harbor, inspected Little Harbor from the boat, toured Soper's Hole while we took on water and fuel, and arrived at Cane Garden Bay to see the best sunset of the cruise so far.
Friday 04 July 2008: Independence Day - From the Bitter End to Jost Van Dyke under sail in under four hours. Sailed off the mooring at 0720 and made the whole trip wing-on-wing on one tack! We're free, even here amongst the British on our day. No clocks, no time, sun/sand/surf/space for just being. Foxy's for dinner on a Friday night.
Thursday 03 July 2008: Another early morning slipping the mooring and beating east, north-east to the North Sound of Virgin Gorda. After navigating the shoals and shallows, we took a very quiet and protected mooring ball just off the beach at "The Bitter End Resort."
Wednesday 02 July 2008: We got underway with only two of the nine of us awake at 0707 to grab an early morning mooring ball at "The Baths" of Virgin Gorda. After about four hours of hikes and snorkeling we headed to Trellis Bay on Beef Island, catching a surprise "pirate party" at "The Last Resort" - The island bar in the middle of the harbor, right there at the end of the runway.
Tuesday 01 July 2008: With an early morning start we tried all the points of sail, conducted an at-sea four-person dingy launch and recovery, and made Cooper's Island by mid-afternoon.
Monday 31 June 2008: Sailed to Norman Island, cruised the "Indians", Kelly's Bay, moored in "The Bight," and visited the infamous "Willy T's" floating bar and diving platform.
Sunday 30 June 2008: On board, provisions, orientation, pool and ocean time, and dinner at Peg Legs on the beach at Nanny Cay, Tortola, BVI.
Saturday 29 June 2008: Half the crew arrived in St. Thomas the day before we boarded Ciao Italia - Emerald Beach was a nice place to wait for the rest and our Sunday afternoon ferry to Tortola.
